A Little Bit of Country is Good For Your Soul

Like a lot of people, we’ve been drawn to the idea of country living for years.

More space. More freedom. A slower pace. A little more room to breathe. There’s something about the simplicity of it that feels grounding in a world that moves so fast.

For me, country living has always felt familiar. I was born and raised in the country, where childhood looked a lot like hide-and-seek in the forest, building tree forts, climbing hay bales, chasing fireflies and butterflies, and spending entire days outside until the sun went down.

Those early years gave me a deep love for the land, the space, and the kind of freedom that country life offers.

But like many people, I spent most of my adult life in the city, building a career and settling into a much faster pace of life.

And then, little by little, I felt pulled back. Back to the quiet. Back to the space. Back to my roots.

Coming back to country living felt natural but stepping into actual rural homeownership? That came with a bit of a reality check. Because as much as I knew and loved the lifestyle, owning a rural property meant learning a whole different side of it.

Things like well and septic systems, stone foundations, spring thaw, drainage, winter maintenance, acreage upkeep, and all the little details that don’t exactly come up in childhood memories.

And that’s part of what inspired Roots & Rooflines.

This space is about learning the country life together. The dream, the reality, and everything in between. It’s a place to explore what rural living actually looks like, ask the questions you didn’t know you had, and build confidence as you figure out if this lifestyle is the right fit for you.

Some of it will be practical. Some of it will be personal. All of it will be honest.
